Founded by Russian doctor Konstantin Buteyko, the method consists of balancing the ratio of carbon dioxide to oxygen for optimal health. Progress is measured using the Control Pause. Exercises in breathing re-education decongest the nose, change from mouth to nasal breathing and reset breathing physiology in the brain stem. The method is shown to be effective in improving asthma, anxiety/panic disorder, chronic hyperventilation syndrome, sleep apnea and more. The method has been carried forward by Patrick McKeown and is recognized and taught globally.
